Empowering Conversations on Mental Health: Highlights from Piquant Health Foundation's Twitter Space Event

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, the Piquant Health Foundation (PHF) brought the conversation on mental health to the digital stage with a powerful Twitter Space Intervention and Discussion Program. The one-hour event, which ran from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., served as a compelling reminder that mental health struggles are real, relatable, and surmountable.

The program, moderated by PHF’s Public Relations Manager, Precious Gbenro (popularly known as London), featured Mr. Sunday Eludodun as the keynote speaker. His candid storytelling about living through mental health challenges resonated deeply with a diverse audience of over 40 participants, including PHF volunteers, the foundation’s founder Dr. Kalu Agada, co-founder Mr. Peter Esanju, and members of the wider public.

A Story of Struggle and Resilience

Mr. Eludodun opened up about a difficult period in his life when his aspirations to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan were dashed after being offered a different course. The disappointment plunged him into cycles of self-doubt, frequent illness, and psychological distress. Yet, his story was not one of defeat. He recounted how friends and lecturers rallied around him, providing the support that carried him through those trying times. His testimony underscored a vital message: community and compassion can be powerful tools in overcoming mental health struggles.

A Nigerian Context

When asked how young people in Nigeria can navigate such mental health challenges, Mr. Eludodun emphasized the importance of seeking help, staying connected with supportive networks, and embracing resilience in the face of systemic limitations. His words sparked an engaging dialogue with participants, many of whom reflected on similar struggles in their personal and academic journeys.

Words from PHF Leadership

Adding to the evening’s impact, Dr. Kalu Agada and Mr. Peter Esanju took turns sharing PHF’s journey and reaffirming its mission of mental health advocacy in Nigeria. They highlighted the progress made so far while also acknowledging the gaps in resources that continue to hinder broader outreach.“We have achieved a lot, but there’s still so much to do,” Dr. Agada stressed. “We need more people to stand with us, support our mission, and help us create lasting change.”

A Call to Action

The program concluded with heartfelt gratitude from the host, London, to all participants and the guest speaker. Yet, the real takeaway was a call to action: supporting mental health advocacy is not optional; it’s urgent. Piquant Health Foundation is inviting well-meaning individuals and organizations to contribute to its mission of building a society where mental health is no longer silenced or stigmatized.
